Firewatch duo raise money for CLIC
Roy Blunt (Group Operations Manager) and Mark Harris (Area Manager) recently held a charity night, named 'Anas Night' at Buckland Football Club. This is a cause close to Roys heart, as a close friends niece- Ana aged 13, has been suffering from cancer since she was 3 years old. The type of cancer she has is terminal and CLIC have been invaluable to her and her family for support and advice throughout the last ten years.
The evening started with a game of Irish Bingo, followed by Play Your Cards Right, Name That (theme) Tune, then Countdown finishing with Big Bang. Mark a former Pontins Blue coat, used his expertise on the night compèring the night and playing DJ whilst Roy allowed his alter ego Roslyn to make an appearance and be the glamourous assistant during Play Your Cards Right!!
Their target for the night was to raise £500 after expenses, this was smashed with a grand total of £1800 being raised! This allowed them to donate £700 to CLIC, purchase a new TV for Ana as being bedridden it is her lifeline to the outside world (her old one had blown up the previous day) aswell as donating money to Bramble Ward at RD & E who provide Ana with amazing care and are currently raising money to improve facilites for the children on their ward, and an amount directly to Anas family to help them with any future costs.
The night became all the more poignant when 3 days later, Ana sadly passed away surrounded by her family. Our thoughts are with her family & friends.
