Charlies Trophy 2016
All over for another year!!
124 golfers participated in the 4th Charlies Trophy, on the 5th August raising over £12,000 for charity.
A fun packed day at a sunny Dainton Park Golf Club challenged the golfers with a number of fun golfing tests including beating Trick Shot Pro Rob Brown on the 8th hole, whilst he hit his shot standing on one leg on a step ladder backwards with a driver with only 13 players succeeding!
Other trials were the Marshmallow drive hosted by local telecom company Mantracom , also attempting a hole -in-one for a £10,000 Kitchen donated by sponsors System6Kitchens . A Thai massage by Saeng Whiteway for the weary golfers whilst viewing local artist Jess Hill painting, both donating their services for the day.
The primary beneficiary is the RTS support group with donations to Children’s Hospice South West, Newton Abbot Community Transport, Rotary Club of Newton Abbot , Shelterbox and Rowcroft Hospice at Home.
The tournament is named after organiser Martin Smith’s grandson, Charlie Lawlor, who has a condition called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome [RTS].
Martin Smith chairman of local business Firewatch South West said about the day
“I again received fantastic support from so many people, without the sponsorship of the main sponsor System6 Kitchens and supporting sponsors Wollen Michelmore, Darnell’s, Jelf Group, Brite Services , Mantracom and of course Firewatch we wouldn’t have raised so much.
We were also helped by over 20 businesses in other sponsorships and at least 40 companies and individuals donating prizes for the raffle and auction. I cannot mention them all by name but I would like to acknowledge the team at Dainton Golf Club, Will Smith from Complete Estate Agents who ran the auction and the generosity of Chris Bryant of Munchkins Day Nursery.”
Rob Brown ‘Tricky Rob’ put on a mind blowing trick shot show at the end of the day with unbelievable stunts, whilst the golf round was undeniably long the golfers participated with good humour and generosity.
Local business Charles Darrow swept up both the top pairs and Team prizes”
Over the last 4 years Charlies Trophy has raised just under £50,000 distributed to the RTS support group and 9 South West charities.
The 5th Charlies Trophy will be staged again at Dainton Park on Friday August 4th 2017
