Firewatch Group Charity Golf Day 2012
The elusive summer sun shone on the annual Firewatch Group charity golf day held at Dainton Park on Friday 20th July. £7,460 was raised for two charities each receiving £3,730, the West of England School for young people with little or no sight based in Exeter and STEPS – Special Toys Educational Postal Service who are located in Torquay.
The scene was set for the day with the promise of a years supply of Ice Cream for the ‘coolest trousers’, donated by Langage Farm with Richard Musson from Plymouth the outright winner.
Playing as pairs and teams of four, the golfers had to work together, swapping shots, arriving at the 8th hole after enjoying home made cakes and tasty pasties they all attempted to get a Hole-In-One with a prize of £10,000 cash; unfortunately unsuccessfully.
A stableford scoring system resulted in a clean sweep by Francis Clark (B) winners of the pairs, John Rowe and Steve Henson also the team prize accompanied by Paul Butler and Steve Guest.
Various other prizes were won such as, ‘nearest the fire extinguisher, the urn and jacket’, in keeping with the groups company products.
The day was rounded up with a ‘Trick Shot Show’ by ex world trick shot champion Paul Barrington, whose mix of amazing skills included a 243yd ‘putt’ with his putter and humourous interaction with the guests made it a day to be remembered.
Organiser Martin Smith CEO of the Firewatch Group commented “It was great to see the hard work materialise into a fun day as well as raising such a significant amount of money for two deserving local charities. It could not have been achieved without the support of so many local businesses and individuals, and the great hospitality of Dainton Park.”
