Fire Door Safety Week 2017
Fire Door Safety Week is all about raising awareness of this critical element of fire safety in every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building.
The brainchild of the British Woodworking Federation, the BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door Scheme and the UK’s Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS), the initiative aims to raise awareness of the critical role of fire doors, drawing attention to specific issues such as poor installation and maintenance, and encouraging building owners and users to check the operation and condition of their fire doors and to report those that aren’t satisfactory.

Are extinguishers art?
Local student Jason Grylls has turned an extinguisher into a work of art. Jason contacted us asking if we could help.
'For my final peace of work for my GCSE's I had to make a lamp. Before I started to design my product, I set myself a goal to make a lamp that was going to use something that would no longer have a lease of life if I were not to use it. Looking round my classroom I spotted a fire extinguisher and I knew that thousands get decommissioned every year. I contacted Max at Firewatch South West who kindly donated me an old unit, my design developed from there.'
Glad we could help Jason!
Airport Safety Week 8 - 14 May 2017
In association with Exeter Airport, we are pleased to be able to support National Airport Safety Week.
The diverse range of activities involved encompassed practising resuscitation, runway inspections on foot, weighing foreign object debris, awareness of drink and drugs and discharging water from fire trucks.
Among many examples, Aberdeen put the focus on the environmental impact of spillages, Cardiff used a simulator to show how to land an aircraft, Liverpool examined the hazards of refuelling aircraft, Newcastle featured a terminal awareness programme on lithium batteries and Newquay had over 60 people involved in a foreign object debris clearing exercise.
Roy Blunt - Firewatch Operations Director & Darren Kinsman-Moore, Exeter Airport Fire Service & Motor Transport Manager
Themes and activities included safety poster competitions with local schools, school visits, safety quizzes and competitions, maintaining optimal health around shift work, first aid training, runway incursion awareness, runway walks, rescue and fire-fighting service open days and air traffic control safety briefings.
This takes place every year at all the major airports and they run several fire awareness events for passengers and staff during that period.
